    Urszula Doroszewska, born on December 2, 1954, a sociologist, opposition activist in the People's Republic of Poland, eastern affairs specialist, diplomat.

     

    In 1978, she completed her studies in sociology at the University of Warsaw. In 1970s, she was engaged in opposition activities; cooperated with the Workers' Defense Committee, from 1977 to 1989 she had been the editor of the independent journal "Głos", from 1978 she had been participating in the Warsaw Students’ Solidarity Committee. In 1980-81, she ran the daily news desk for "Solidarity" Mazowsze Region; during the martial law she published in underground magazines; in 1984 she had been arrested for 2 months; she  was a publicist of the independent and catholic press.

     

    In the 1990s, she was a freelance journalist, published articles about the changes in the former USSR (mainly about Ukraine, Georgia and Azerbaijan), among others, in the ”Rzeczpospolita” daily and in “Arcana. Doroszewska ran assistance programmes in Ukraine (Crimea) and in the countries of the South Caucasus, conducted first by the IDEE Foundation Warsaw, then by the foundation Towarzystwo Demokratyczne Wschód, over whose works she presided from 2002 to 2006.

     

    Since August 2006, she had been working for the Chancellery of the Late  President of Poland Lech Kaczynski, as an expert, since April 2007 as deputy director of the Foreign Affairs Office headed by the late Mariusz Handzlik.

     

    From December 2008 until February 2013, she was Poland’s Ambassador to Georgia. From May 2013 to August 2015, U. Doroszewska was director of the Polish Institute in Minsk, Belarus. Since September 2015, she was  adviser to the President of Poland Andrzej Duda.

     

    She was awarded the Commander's Cross of the Order of Rebirth of Poland Polonia Restituta (2006) and the Presidential Order of Excellence (Georgia 2013).
